#this is the most beautiful five seconds of acting I’ve ever seen #the suppressed shout seems to be more than enough for the scene really #but then his eyes flicker as if he can hardly believe that he almost gave himself away like that #after such careful thought and planning to keep his friend out of danger and unaware #and he realises that it’ll be a lot more difficult for him than he predicted #he’ll have to voluntarily isolate himself from the world #and he may not last a year or a week or even an hour #then he sees Watson’s distress as he reads the goodbye letter and it hits him again #not only is it going to be hell for him #it may even be worse for the only man who took the time to really befriend him #silly old Watson who falls for all the tricks #who relies too much on his heart #and who is the greatest companion a man could hope for #all this and more conveyed completely by expression #Jeremy Brett is an acting genius #rambling creys in the tags don’t mind me

The part that really kills me is the suppressed shout, yeah, but the little smile in the bottom three .gifs - he’s so fond of Watson, he knows him so well and loves him so much and he knows just what’s going on in his head. And it kills him it hurts so much there’s so much pain but his Watson still makes him smile.
